The Nigerian
Medical Association has called on the government of Akwa Ibom State to prevent
the hawking of herbal preparations which the traders claim to be a cure for all
diseases. Dr Aniekeme Uwah, Chairman NMA AKS and members of his executive made
this advocacy at the end of its 2016 annual general meeting and scientific
conference held in Uyo.
The Association also advocated for the payment of fifteen months salary arrears
and CONMESS arrears being owed doctors in Akwa Ibom State employ and payment of
skipping arrears being owed doctors in the University of Uyo teaching hospital
(UUTH) by the institution.
They called for the passage of the bill to establish state primary health care development agency by the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly to enhance immunization programs and other health care delivery services at the primary health care level.
The doctors frowned at indiscriminate dumping of Health Care Waste (HCW), because of its negative implications on the people. They called for provision of health care waste management systems and an establishment of health care waste management agency.
Lastly, The NMA requested for the community health insurance scheme ongoing in Ukana Essien Udim LGA to be extended to other communities in the state to increase access to qualitative health care services by the people.
The new NMA state executive led by Dr Aniekeme Uwah promised to partner with the government of His Excellency, Deac. Udom Emmanuel in his quest to improve the welfare of doctors and improve the health care delivery system in Akwa Ibom State.
